The UEFA Champions League (UCL) is an annual club football tournament organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It features top-division clubs across Europe and stands as the most prestigious club competition in world football. Competition Format
Starting in the 2024–25 season, UEFA completely overhauled the tournament’s traditional group stage, replacing it with a single 36-team “League Phase”:
The League Phase: Every club plays eight matches against eight different opponents (four at home, four away). All results are tracked in a single, massive league table.
Automatic Qualification: The teams finishing in the top 8 automatically advance to the Round of 16.
The Play-offs: Teams finishing 9th to 24th enter a two-legged knockout play-off round to claim the remaining eight spots.
Knockout Rounds: From the Round of 16 onward, teams face off in traditional home-and-away aggregate “legs”.
The Final: A single-match, high-stakes showdown hosted at a predetermined neutral venue. Historical Superpowers
