KernSafe TotalMounter is an all-in-one virtual drive utility that lets you emulate a physical optical burner. By creating a Virtual CD-RW or DVD-RW, any traditional disc-burning software (such as ImgBurn, Windows Disc Image Burner, or Sound Forge) will recognize it as a real, physical writer. Instead of wasting plastic media, the data you “burn” is directly written into an ISO image file stored on your hard drive.
This is incredibly useful for creating system recovery discs, backing up files on computers without optical drives, or archiving physical media digitally. Phase 1: Installation and Driver Configuration
Before mounting a virtual writer, you must ensure TotalMounter’s virtual SCSI controllers are properly integrated into your operating system.
Download and install KernSafe TotalMounter from the official repository.
Launch the installation wizard and progress through the prompts.
Wait for the SCSI driver installation: After the main interface installs, Windows will initiate the installation of the “KernSafe SCSI Controller” driver. Do not close the app or restart until Windows prompts that this driver has been successfully configured.
Restart your machine if prompted by the installer to finalize system level integration. Phase 2: Creating and Mounting the Virtual CD-RW
Once the driver is active, you can build a blank virtual disc to write your data to. Open the KernSafe TotalMounter application. Click on the Mount button located on the top toolbar. Select Virtual CD/DVD-RW from the dropdown menu.
A new setup window will appear. Configure the following parameters:
Media Type: Choose whether you want to emulate a CD-RW image or a DVD-RW image depending on the size of the project.
File Path: Click browse to select where the output ISO file will live on your local hard drive. File Name: Give your target disc image a distinct name. Click OK or Finish to initialize.
TotalMounter will now generate a brand-new virtual optical drive in your “This PC” / “Computer” directory, pre-loaded with your “blank” rewriteable disc. Phase 3: Burning Data to the Virtual Disc
Now that the virtual writer exists, your operating system treats it as a legitimate physical device.
Open your choice of burning software (e.g., Nero, ImgBurn, or Windows built-in backup tools). Select your files or the system image you wish to burn.
Under the Target Drive / Burner Selection, choose the new virtual drive created by TotalMounter instead of your hardware drive. Click Burn.
The software will process the action at simulated high speeds, writing the compiled layout directly into your preset ISO file. Phase 4: Finalizing and Unmounting
